Christmas Day 2018
The Christmas Day candle is lit.
The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us
And we beheld His glory
The glory as of the only begotten of the Father
Full of grace and truth.

HYMN O come, all ye faithful verses 1, 3, 4 and 7
The Holy Family, Shepherds, Wise Men and gifts are taken to the crib.

Lord Jesus Christ,
your birth at Bethlehem
draws us to kneel in wonder at heaven touching earth;
accept our heartfelt praise
as we worship you, our Saviour and our eternal God. Amen.

The angel said to Joseph, “You shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their
sins.” Let us seek God's forgiveness.
The Virgin Mary accepted your will:
Forgive our disobedience.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
The Shepherds left their sheep to find the Christ-child:
Forgive our self-interest.
Christ, have mercy.
Christ, have mercy.
The Wise Men followed the star to Bethlehem:
Forgive our lack of vision.
Lord, have mercy.
Lord, have mercy.
May God who loved the world so much
that he sent his Son to be our Saviour
forgive our sins
and make us holy to serve him in the world,
through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

HYMN Away in a manger

READING 'Mary's Song' Charles Causley

READING Luke 2 verses 8 – 16

'Heaven touches earth'
READING from 'Helena' Evelyn Waugh

We stand to affirm our faith in God.
We believe in God the Father,
from whom every family
in heaven and on earth is named.
We believe in God the Son,
who lives in our hearts through faith,
and fills us with his love.
We believe in God the Holy Spirit,
who strengthens us with power from on high.
We believe in one God;
Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

Let us pray.
Lord of love,
Hear our prayer.

Rejoicing in the presence of God here among us, let us pray as Jesus taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever. Amen.

HYMN Joy to the world

May the babe of Bethlehem bring us peace;
May the child of Nazareth bring us joy;
May the man of Galilee bring us strength;
May the Jesus of Calvary bring us courage;
May the risen Lord bring us hope;
And the ascended Christ a foretaste of his glory;
and may the blessing of God almighty, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, be with us all this
Christmastide and always. Amen.

Go in peace.
We go in peace.
Go in joy.
We go in joy.
Go in love.
We go in love. Amen.
